Job Description & Candidate Profile
 

PRIMARY FUNCTION

  • Defines strategies for Responsible Sourcing within supply chain performance, transparency and accountability that deliver measurable results within manufacturing excellence and drive towards a positive/restorative impact in our manufacturing communities
  • Enhance Target’s reputation through responsible sourcing by defining expectations for our business partners
  • Partner with internal and external counterparts to establish world class supply chain initiatives and drive alignment towards industry solutions

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Key Competency Expectations

  • Engagement/Collaborates
    • Identify and build synergistic relationships within Target, the industry and our business partners that strategically expand (transform) our Responsible Sourcing initiatives and programs (including, NGO’s, industry associations, retailers/brands, private research groups etc.)
    • Drive engagement by partnering with internal and external teams on key topics within your scope
    • Actively participate in industry meetings and represent Target’s point of view
    • Facilitates open discussion in meetings or other platformsto ensure that all viewpoints are heard; encourage open exchange of information to support effective and efficient decision making
  • Communicate Effectively
    • Effectively create and articulate program expectations and trainings while promoting business partner commitment and engagement to Target initiatives and strategies
    • Proactively shares timely and relevant updates about projects and reporting. Summarizes information to provide appropriate amount of detail.
  • Program Management
    • Leads committees to develop process, establish clear roles and responsibilities and drive technology solutions that deliver against our strategies
    • Adept at problem solving to address barriers when results are not achieved and leverages resources to keep projects moving
    • Develops project timelines, communication plans, identifies stakeholders for engagement and owns project budget
    • Maintains an objective perspective when framing situations or identifying risk
  • Research, Decision Making & Critical Thinking
    • Master practical thought process to support timely and effective decision making and apply critical thinking tools
    • Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources and deal with ambiguity
    • Strong ability to research and find resources that support program recommendations
    • Actively provides market intelligence to inform Target strategies and ensure we are industry leading

2. Operational Excellence / Business Management

Overall Expectations

  • Adapt to change and adheres to Target's business strategies and goals by defining and creating Responsible Sourcing programs and processes
  • Proactively identify ways to streamline and/or improve efficiency of work, systems and processes
  • Ensure on time execution of projects and ensure projects have quantifiable metrics to report against our goals
  • Ensures problems identified are resolved timely, escalated correctly and shared with related counterparts; finds and guides project team to the best alternate solution
  • Identify and communicate opportunities to improve processes
  • Escalate critical issues concerning ethics, Responsible Sourcing risks to leaders; inform CFT teams and get support for issue resolution

 

Foundational Activities

  • Act as the primary contact for internal & external counterparts regarding Responsible Sourcing programs you manage
  • Influence technology solutions to ensure visibility to incorporate Responsible Sourcing needs into systems
  • Own with partnership with overseas team, trainingand implementation of programs to ensure effective roll out and integration into the supply chain
  • Identify gaps and opportunities through research to inform Responsible Sourcing Managers on white space opportunities.
  • Establishes and maintains key business partner relationships to ensure continued partnership and pilot/test programs to ensure effective integration within the supply chain 

 

Additional Duties

  • Creates Best Methods/processes to support Responsible Sourcing Initiatives
  • Partners with global teams to provide training as identified
  • Provides support to Group Managers and Directors on various projects and research as needed
  • Other projects as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS/BA (Bachelor) Degree, preferably in Science background
  • 3-5 years of experience in environmental sustainability or related work
  • Knowledge and working experience of textile wet processing or other environmental high impact manufacturing process (brought this up from the desired requirement)
  • Experience in managing small projects or portions of larger projects.
  • Analytical experience related to social or environmental topics
  • Strong program management and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently, and under general direction.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity
  • Ability to establish strong relationships with cross-functional teams, business partners, and industry organizations
  • Meeting management/facilitation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication

 

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in Environmental Science/Engineering or Sustainability or equivalent work experience
  • Knowledge and experience in working on different environmental sustainability projects e.g. PaCT, ZDHC, Detox, etc.
  • Past working experience or knowledge of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE) and/or the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), would be a plus.
  • Certification in Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001), or Energy Management System (ISO 50001)
  • Experience working with global teams/business partners
  • Computer skill: expert in Excel
